United Kingdom Flag

The largest group of members of the Commonwealth Nations Research Society comes from all parts of the United Kingdom, who support the aims of the society as a 'Third Way' alternative to British membership of the European Union and British alliance to the United States. A Commonwealth Free Trade Area would allow the U.K. to have a strong and independent foreign policy, with free trade with both Europe and America, and strengthen the U.K.'s global trading position. The biggest advantage to the United Kingdom would be that it would be in a union of like-minded states.

The Commonwealth Nations Research Society also believes that in a Commonwealth Free Trade Area, expat British citizens living in other member countries should be entitled to indexed pensions from the United Kingdom.

The Commonwealth Nations Research Society believes that it is far more fitting for the United Kingdom to belong to a Commonwealth Free Trade Area than to the European Union. The charts below, taken from current data, show that the number of citizens of British ethnic origin (English, Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish) and the number of British expats (U.K. citizens living abroad) is the highest in Australia, Canada and New Zealand combined. Almost half of all U.K. citizens living abroad around the world, live in these three countries. In a Commonwealth Free Trade Area, the United Kingdom would be united with like-minded people, mostly of the same stock, speaking the same language and having access to all the major markets of the world (Europe, North America and Asia).
